For me it wasn’t the first visit in Sicily. But the first in Palermo. I saw the south coast of the island and even walked on the balcony of „Il Commisario Montalbano“ an Italian television series, based on the detective novels of Andrea Camilleri. The protagonist is Commissario Montalbano, and the stories are set in the imaginary town of Vigata, Sicily.
After I had seen the movie Palermo Shooting by Wim Wenders I knew I had to give Palermo a try. A short flight from Rome and I arrived at my host’s. Perhaps one of the most memorable accommodations in all of Sicily. A romantic apartment with wonderful Italian frescoes, marble floors, crystal chandeliers, antique furnishings as well as a lovely sea view.
I unpacked my luggage at record-speed, grabbed my Fuji X100 and headed out.
Before discovering the old town, you have to enjoy the Sicilian Street Food. It’s awesome! Then you’re good for a long walk in Palermo. The food markets are a compulsory visit.
Enjoy the nights by eating outside. Taste a Nero d’Avola or Donnafugata! You will definitely find your favorite wine in Sicily. The Palermitans are very friendly and open for a chat. Eat and talk with the locals. Explore the island and take a tour to the Mount Etna! I will definitely come back.
